Self-Adaptive Control System for Additive Manufacturing Using Double Electrode Micro Plasma Arc Welding

Abstract Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) has been investigated to deposit large-scale metal parts due its high deposition efficiency and low material cost. However, in the process of automatically high-quality by WAAM, several problems about heat build-up, deposit-path optimization, stability parameters need be well addressed. To overcome these issues, a new WAAM method based on double electrode micro plasma welding (DE-MPAW) was designed. The circuit principles different metal-transfer models DE-MPAW were analyzed theoretically. effects between parameters, wire feed rate torch stand-off distance, experimentally. In addition, real-time control system developed optimize stabilize self-adaptively changing distance. Finally, series tests performed evaluate system’s performance. results show that capability against interferences enhanced this self-adaptive adjustment system. Further, paths part’s layer heights are simplified. appearance WAAM-deposited layers is also improved with use
